Candidate #1 : Male, Malay, Around 19.

I was walking my puppy last Friday evening with the thought of People-watching. While walking, I spotted my candidate at the playground. (and I’ve no idea why I notice this guy; maybe I just enjoy spotting cute and smart looking people.) He wore a long sleeve shirt and pants with nice leather shoe. His black hair tidily combed, not too spiky or too geeky. A little skinny and most likely standing 1.8m. :)

I presume he had gone for Hari Raya visiting because he was with another lady and a few little girls who were wearing Baju-kurong. I bet he must be Mr Nice as the little girls seem to enjoy his presence. Anyway, he was walking around the area where the girls are playing- making sure they are playing safely. I think they might be his siblings or cousins. However, he wasn’t talking to the lady. I guess they just weren’t close. During the whole observation period, which lasted about half an hour, he kept looking at the girls and at times, play with them. However, he is obviously not enjoying this monitoring work because he look at his watch every few minutes.

I perceive him as a good mummy’s boy. (hahaha) The little girls probably felt really bored staying at home. And his mother asked him to bring them out. Then perhaps the lady was his cousin who wanted to tag along (with the motive of wanting to get close to her handsome cousin). Of course, with his looks, I guess he would replied “Yes, Mama. Don’t worry Aunties, I will take good care of them.” But maybe in his heart he’s actually thinking that it’s bloody boring to accompany them but it’s even more boring sitting in the living room listening to his relatives catching up with one another. Then sometimes he has to entertain the kids with jokes and allow them to pull his clothes. But being Mr Nice, he doesn’t want to lose his temper.

It was around 8pm when his mother came down calling for him and the little girls to get going. Mr Nice seemed to be very happy about that because he walked away first. At the same time, looking back hoping the girls will be good and just follow him. And because he has the strong urge of leaving, I think he most likely has a date after that or maybe just purely want to go home so that he can start revising his stuffs. Or maybe he might go out with his friends to enjoy since “the night is still young”. Anyway, he doesn’t even need to go home since he is already well-dressed.

Candidate #2 : Female, Mixed Blood, 18 or 19?

I went to look for a friend over at Causeway. It was around 5pm. We had a little chat and headed back to Seng Kang (where I stay). We got up the forever-packed bus and fortunately, manage to grab a seat each at the rear. Then I spotted my candidate! Right opposite me! Why her? Because she and her friend were talking very happily and they kept laughing after every few minutes. And of course, pretty girl!

The pretty girl’s height is around 1.65m. She has long, dyed, straight yet healthy hair. Judging from her features, I think she’s a a mix-blood, maybe Malay and Eurasian? But I’m quite sure she has Chinese blood, because they were talking in mandarin and she sang a song in dialect (I guess? Don’t really understand what she was singing though. Just sounded dialect to me.). She wore an orange tank-top, white shorts and havianas . Carrying a laptop, I guess she’s attending school at Republic Polytechnic.

Throughout the journey, her friend asked her IQ questions and she replied weird answers. I was quite shocked, because she looks smart to me. Surprisingly, she didn’t care how people look at her. When her friend disturb her by messing up her hair, she did the same and didn’t really bother to arrange it neatly. At times, she would sit cross-legged. The both of them seems to enjoy each other’s companion and were laughing all the way. I was guessing they are most likely going to alight together and continue their laughter.

However, when the bus arrives at Seng Kang, the two of them kept saying “huh! so fast reach already!”. From there, I could tell that they are parting and indeed, her friend alighted at the first stop. Then on, she seems to change. She became really quiet and looked quite tired. I guess after a long day in school, she’s heading home. I alighted at the same stop and decided the observation will come to an end since my stomach was rather noisy.

Hamber was all along interested in Rosy. They’ve known each other since high school. Rosy is a popular girl and has many dates. But no matter what, she just wouldn’t go out with Hamber. Despite having a big social circle, Hamber does not confide in people. He always keep to himself and questions himself what’s wrong with him? Why is Rosy never interested in him? He is smart, he has all the qualification. Why? Finally, this fateful day came. He went to town to meet a few friends. Feeling rather tired, he settles himself on a bench. At this very moment, he sees her holding hands with another guy, walking closely together. Hamber has a sudden urge in him which caused him to head straight to the guy, punch him in his face. Rosy- shocked, not knowing what to do but just keep screaming and cover the guy.

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” she yells.

The crowd, by this time, has set their eyes on the three. He hold her by the arms tightly and shake her violently. “Why can’t you give me a chance? Am I no better than him? All these years I waited and waited. You should at least tell me what I can do so that you would love me. But why? Why do you have to be so cruel to me!” he shouts. He forces a kiss on her. She struggled. Her boyfriend hit Hamber from the back and manage to set free Rosy. She slaps him and said “You are just not for me. Loser!”

Very good observations! Good descriptions and more importantly, good insights into their lives and behaviour. Well done!
